When you look at today’s crop of flatbellies on the professional tours, you can appreciate the value of fitness as it relates to the modern golf game. Where the old-timers spent their off-time lifting beer mugs, today’s players are lifting conditioning to a new level. Titleist Performance Institute recently partnered with Fitness Anywhere to create the first-ever sport specific training DVD on “Suspension Training,” a new method of fitness conceived in the elite Nave SEAL teams.
The workout increases balance, postural control, flexibility, range of motion and strength while helping to prevent common golf –related injuries at the same time. The workout features use of the TRX Suspension Trainer, a convenient, portable device that exploits gravity and bodyweight for resistance.
According to Jim MacDonald, PT, DPT, MS, a TPI golf fitness/medical practitioner in conjunction with Sacramento’s Body Balance for Performance, “This is a fabulous piece of equipment that is used primarily for an advanced regimen in the golfers we work with. It’s important that golfers have a basic level of fitness before beginning with this equipment.” Bottom line—if you’re already a flatbelly, this makes sense for you. If you’re not quite there, it’s not too late to get started working up to it. For more information, visit www.fitnessanywhere.com.
